Dragon Ball Super: Broly - The best 2018 had to offer in terms of animation

Hello people, and Happy new year, if you are into this kind of stuff.

My return to the blog, that has been somewhat neglected by me due to an overflow of stuff, and Christmas holidays, yeah. But I returned with something less metal related, but more of an personal experience/review of mine, that I feel that I must share with you guys.

During the 1st of January I saw the Dragon Ball Super: Broly. And I have to say that this is just the best Dragon Ball movie ever made.

This is a well done reboot, unlike some more recent films that stunned franchises that I love (Predator, I'm looking at you). The hand of Akira Toryama (creator of Dragonball) is quite obvious, and the fact that basically eliminated Broly's stupidity, where he was motivated by the cry of Kakarot (Son Goku) when he was a baby, but instead for the revenge of Paragus, Broly's father, after they were exiled from planet Vegeta.

I liked what they did with Paragus, the veteran war commander who only has vengeance on his sights, who uses his son to carry it on through Vegeta IV (the current Vegeta), since he can not reach the King Vegeta III, perished in the destruction of the planet Vegeta.
(drink a shot of vodka whenever you read Vegeta).

I did not like how the Toryama put aside the rebellion of Bardock (Son Goku's father) against Freeza.

Yes, he does two plus two and realizes in a timely manner that Freeza has no good intentions with the Sayans, but in the original film "The Bardock Story," the rebellion and the iconic bandanna scene, tinted with the blood of his comrades, I really missed that. I missed the "ruthless" warrior Bardock was, where he didn't even cared for Raditz, and Kakarot. I missed the real motivation Bardock had, when faced with Freeza's henchmen, slaughtering his companions like they were mere cannon fodder.

They wen't by the plot of the Dragon Ball Minus Manga, also written by him. So this is a retcon, one of many by him.

I loved Freeza, and his manipulative and calculating personality, characteristic of him. The introduction of new characters was welcome, and in general the plot is 1000x higher in content than Broly's original trilogy.

The animation of the movie, HOLLY FRICK WHAT A VISUAL SHOW. I do not even know how there were people saying that it had a bad animation, based solely on low quality still images that were leaked. Everything flows well. You feel the weight of every punch, every kick, every scream (there are many, it's Dragonball). The scenario gets destroyed as the fight goes on, a true spectacle of colors and shapes taking place.

I still remember a lot of people reacting badly when they learned it was "Broly" coming back. I too rolled my eyes, but who would say, how they grabbed what were the worst Dragonball movies for me (and many others), and made it one of the best cinematic experiences of 2018.

Although I saw it, when it goes out in Portugal, I'm going to see it at the movies. The Sound Design is equally brilliant, and I want to have that ultimate experience, to feel every punch and kick in my ears, with that sweet Dolby Atmos treatment.

It took me over 20 years to make me like Broly, and what was missing was the Toryama's intervention, because this is the Broly I wanted.

Arigato, Toryama-sensei.

Note: Once again, I am sorry for the long hiatus. Been really occupied with Daemon Forest, and my solo project, Manifestis Probatum. I found some days now to dedicate myself to some other pending projects.

Also, I haven't received any submissions to review lately, and haven't listened to new music due to the lack of time, or at least, listen stuff that I deem worthy of my time to review. And the lack of consistency within Metal Archives own review policy, where I got some reviews denied either because they were far too detailed, or not detailed at all. Kinda kept my motivation away, and I focused on other things eventually.

Next month I will go to Czech Republic, to take on an Internship on a Recording Studio, so I will work with local bands, and check the metal scene there. So my next post may take some time, unless I decide to make a vlog or something, if you guys are into that kind of stuff.

And I intend to broad my content here. I want to make some gaming and movie reviews as well, to keep the content flowing when I return to Portugal.

So stay tuned.
